Artist Statement – Lavan Wright
Lavan Wright is a multidisciplinary artist born in New York and based in Atlanta. Working across fine art, tattooing, illustration, apparel, and brand collaborations, his practice centers on symbolism, cultural memory, and personal transformation. His work bridges contemporary art and lived experience, merging clean linework, bold form, and intentional color to communicate layered emotional narratives.
Rooted in identity and self-examination, Wright explores themes of resilience, protection, evolution, and self-belief. Recurring motifs and character-driven imagery act as vessels for storytelling, reflecting the balance between vulnerability and strength. Through minimal composition and deliberate visual language, he distills complex experiences into accessible, striking forms.
His background in tattooing informs his precision and respect for permanence. Whether working on canvas, skin, public walls, or product, each piece is approached with intention and accountability. The discipline of line and placement becomes a metaphor for clarity, ownership, and growth.
Alongside his studio practice, Wright collaborates with cultural brands in music, fashion, and media, expanding his visual language beyond traditional gallery spaces. These partnerships allow him to translate fine art concepts into immersive and wearable formats without losing artistic integrity.
Wright’s long-term vision is to build creative spaces where artists and youth can gather, develop skills, and cultivate sustainable careers. Through exhibitions, limited editions, public installations, and collaborative projects, he continues to expand a body of work that moves fluidly between fine art, commercial platforms, and community impact.
