BOSS UP, 2017
I created Boss Up in the same creative flow as Changes. It features Omega alongside two female characters whose stories I plan to revisit and develop further as the universe grows.
The piece draws from the “by any means necessary” mentality shaped by the War on Drugs and other systems that brought chaos into Black communities. Pimps, drug dealers, and other figures learned to capitalize on that environment, using what was placed around them to gain money, status, and power. Boss Up looks at the hunger to rise within a system that was never built to offer everyone a fair path forward.
Omega carries a warrior-like energy, determined to remove anything standing between him and his crown. The Three Little Pigs become casualties of that hunger, connecting the piece to the larger Big Bad Wolf story. Their presence also raises a harder question: what gets destroyed when survival turns into ambition, and ambition becomes conquest?
Boss Up represents the drive to claim power and build yourself up, while recognizing the chaos, sacrifice, and consequences that can follow that pursuit.
