SUMMER IN NY, 2018
Summer in NY is an ode to the New York summers I remember and the neighborhood energy that helped shape me. Set on a Brooklyn block, the piece recalls a time when the street became its own gathering place and everybody contributed to the life around it.
Kids ride bikes, play basketball, jump double Dutch, run through water from an open hydrant, and enjoy ice cream beneath rows of brownstones. Nearby, adults play dominoes, talk, share food, and watch the day unfold. The street becomes a vinyl record, connecting every scene through the music and rhythm that brought the block together.
Part of my Pure Gold series, Summer in NY celebrates the warmth, movement, and community of old New York block parties. It holds onto the kind of summer memory that can feel simple while you are living it, then become pure gold once you look back.
